FAQ
llms.txt is a plain-text markdown file that sits at the root of your website and gives AI systems like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity a clean, structured summary of who you are and which pages matter. Think of it as a sitemap written for language models: a short description of your site followed by organised lists of your most important links.
Upload it to the root of your website so it is reachable at yourdomain.com/llms.txt, the same place as robots.txt and sitemap.xml. On most hosts that means the public_html or www folder. No other configuration is needed; it is a plain text file served over HTTPS.
llms.txt is an emerging convention, not a guarantee. Google has said it does not currently use it for ranking, but it costs nothing, takes minutes, and gives AI crawlers a clear map of your site as adoption grows. We treat it as a low-effort, no-risk addition alongside proper structured data and good content, not a replacement for them. Want to know where your site stands overall? Run our free site checkup.
robots.txt controls which crawlers may access which parts of your site; it is about permission. llms.txt is about guidance: it tells AI systems what your site is and which pages best represent it. The two work together, and neither replaces your sitemap.xml, which lists URLs for search engine indexing.
llms.txt is one small piece. We build fast, search-friendly websites and apps end to end, and we stay after launch. Tell us what you are working on.
